CSPAN reports that the House Ways & Means Committee is investigating fraud in the homebuyer credit program,

The House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing looking into the IRS examination of over 100,000 suspicious claims in the first-time homebuyer tax credit. Rep. John Lewis  (D-GA), Chair of the House Subcomittee said he is pleased the program is working, but stated, “I am concerned about recent reports that there have been fraudulent schemes involving the credit.

Whenever the government institutes a program that gives some people the hard-earned cash of other people you can count on there being serious levels of fraud. Refundable credits like the new homebuyer credit and the earned income credit are redistributions of wealth and bottom feeders will do whatever it takes to get some of that free government cash.

Government policies like progressive taxation blatantly redistribute wealth from the rich to the poor thereby creating a climate in which people no longer find it morally repugnant to steal from others whom they deem to be better off than they. Obtaining a tax refund by claiming a tax credit to which you are not legally entitled is theft – straight up.

But the problem is it doesn’t feel like theft. People who commit fraud to obtain a tax credit don’t believe they have done anything wrong. It somehow feels okay to take the taxpayers’ money. After all, the rich only got that way because they stole from the working poor in the first place, right? It isn”t like they worked harder or smarter than we did, is it? No, its because the rich are dishonest and greedy. How can it be wrong to steal from the dishonest and greedy?

This is class warfare plain and simple and you have the progressive left to thank for it. It has deliberately and consistently created in the minds of the masses the notion that the “haves” became haves by nefarious means and that anything bad that happens to them is well deserved.

In other words, instead of admiring the successful and the accomplished and the productive and trying to learn from them, we are now teaching people to loathe them.

And for the most primitive of reasons: Envy.

This was the same climate that the Soviets created in communist Russia where you had people reporting their neighbors for having a nicer car than they had.
