[Norman] was simply doing everything possible to keep alive the illusion of his mother being alive. And when reality came too close, when danger or desire threatened that illusion – he dressed up, even to a cheap wig he bought. He’d walk about the house, sit in her chair, speak in her voice. He tried to be his mother!
And, uh… now he is.
- Dr. Fred Richmond on Norman Bates – Psycho -
Apparently Her Highness Barbara Boxer isn’t the only one who doesn’t want to be called ma’am.
In a follow up to our recent post, the AP reports that Thomas Prusik-Parkin has a defense to charges that he donned his mommies’ bloomers and a gray wig and duped the U.S. government out of more than $100k of social security benefits:
Prusik-Parkin told the New York Post in a jailhouse interview that he wasn’t the person captured on security cameras dressed in a wig and his mom’s clothing.
[D]uring the 40-minute interview at Riker’s Island, the 49-year-old also claimed his mother was once a B-movie star who dated Gene Kelly and offered a rambling discourse on the psyche of Norman Bates, the cross-dressing killer in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.”
Ma’am . . . um . . . I mean Senator, let me get this straight: You’re saying that someone else played the part of your mommy so you could get the social security checks?
Call me crazy, but I am pretty sure the crime here is the theft of Social Security funds, not the chick impersonating.
The Gothamist reports that Prusik-Parkin was singing a different tune yesterday:
[Y]esterday we learned that this man, now being held in lieu of $1 million bail, kept a casket in his home for undisclosed reasons—though it’s safe to assume that’s where he’d sleep, all snug and cozy in [Mummy's] nightgown.
According to court papers obtained by the Post, Prusik-Parkin says he was just following [his mother's] orders.
“She said, ‘I will guide you,’ he told cops after his arrest Tuesday. “I therefore have had to put on her things and represent the part of me that is her in order to fight for our rights and our home.”
This is guy is creepy cubed!
I hate to go all Oedipal on you people, but has anyone bothered to look into what happened to Prusik-Parkin’s dad?
And what about his mother’s would-be suitors?
What happened to those guys?
How did Gene Kelly die again?
Time to drain that murky pond behind the Prusik-Parkin house.

It’s always interesting when a news story bridges both my career and my husband’s. He’s a psychiatry resident, and has worked at a couple of state mental hospitals. As you said, Social Security fraud is the least of this guy’s problems…

Monica,
Wow, you’re kinda like the Huxtables.
I agree with you:

One flew over the cuckoo’s nest.”
