Charlie Rangel, Ways & Means to Consider Taxing Prescription Drug Ads

June 18th, 2009 · No Comments

Let’s face it, when you spend money like a drunken trust fund baby sailor with a limitless sugar-daddy Platinum Amex card you’re going to have to come up with some novel ways to raise money.

Here’s the latest.

According to Paul Caron of TaxProf Blog, Congress is now considering taxing prescription drug advertising.

Here’s what House Ways & Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) said today:

[O]ne thing that’s not off the table is you can pick up $37 billion knocking out the deduction for [prescription drug] advertising.

Christopher Bergin of Tax.com has more.

Incidentally, is anyone surprised that Mr. Rangel lacks the testicular fortitude to take on a “commercial” that can fight back?

You know, like Dos Equis’ Most Interesting Man in the World.
