Ultra-rich folks who want the government to force people who make less money than they do to pay more taxes crack me up.
They claim to believe in the noble ideals of the Democrat party: To help the working poor, to level the playing field for the middle class, to foster equality for minorities and for women.
They seem to be metaphysically certain that the way to accomplish these goals is to confiscate money from those who they’ve determined make too damn much of it and redistribute it among those who they’ve determined make too damn little of it.
Sounds like a God complex to me.
I don’t know about you, but I am dubious of the motives of anyone who tools around in a private jet and has a ten million dollar home who claims to be more concerned than everyone else about the struggles of the common man.
But these do-gooder elites can easily assuage my doubts.
If they do what I propose below they will make me eat crow and I’ll post on this cite an unqualified apology to all pro-tax rich folks.
Here is my challenged to the proponents of confiscatory taxes on rich folks:
As a symbol of your commitment to the idea that the rich are getting a free pass in our society, annually donate to the federal government an additional ten percent of your income.
Think about it.
You won’t miss the money.
Ninety percent of $10,000,000 is still a lot of bread for wearing a pair of dingy overalls and lip synching “Constant Sorrow.”
And there is nothing illegal about paying more taxes than you legally owe. I am quite sure the IRS will gladly accept your donation.
Of course, I recognize that even if every pro-tax rich person did this, it wouldn’t balance the budget or eliminate the deficit, but it would certainly help.
I won’t hold my breath.
The truth is they are lip-service do-gooders. If they were sincere in their beliefs, they would have contributed additional funds to the U.S. Government long ago, without the need of my prompting?
Mega-rich’ns like Barbara Streisand, George Clooney, P. Diddy, Tim Robbins and Sean Penn who regularly stump for higher taxes on the rich (”rich” to them means people who make more than $200,000.00 a year or the rough equivalent of the Cloonster’s annual dry-cleaning budget) then hire teams of tax lawyers to ensure that they don’t pay a penny more in taxes than they legally owe remind me of the anarchist who votes: He hates organized government then calmly and obliviously proceeds to participate in it.
